The Athens Economic Development Corporation was formed in 1989 the voters of Athens which permits the Corporation to receive funds from a half-cent sales tax collected for economic development. The AEDC has maintained an excellent track record. Since 1990, they have completed 50 economic development projects, created over 3,000 new full time jobs and generated $12 million in new taxable revenue.
Funds received by AEDC are used to promote the economic growth and vitality of Athens and provide the Corporation certain flexibility within State guidelines to assist companies with manufacturing, R&D, Transportation, Recycling, Distribution, Job Training, Headquarter facilities and city parks.
The AEDC Board is comprised of seven voting members and is professionally staffed by an economic development professional and an administrative assistant.
